Copa del Café

The "Copa del Café" (Coffee Bowl) is and has been one of the best junior tennis tournaments in the world. It is an ITF Grade 1 Tournament but has the feel and excitement of the Grand Slam and Grade A junior tournaments that take place every year, and which are played by the best ranked junior players in the world. The spark for starting “la Copa” in our country took place in 1965 with a group of tennis players at the Costa Rica Country Club. They formed a Tournament Committee, staffed by volunteer club members, which over the years has worked hard to make this tournament ever better. The Committee members, club personnel, and corporate sponsors have worked together to make the tournament a prestigious tennis event on an international level. It is arguably Costa Rica`s premier international athletic event.

The 2023 Coffee Bowl will be the 58th edition. Ever since the first “Copa” in 1965 the tournament has received strong international support from top players and dedicated coaches, and this has contributed enormously to the success and the tournament’s prestige.

The Coffee Bowl is part of a junior circuit backed by the International Tennis Federation and supported by the tennis federations of many tennis rich countries. The tournament is by far the oldest junior tournament in Latin America and every year the Coffee Bowl receives entries from more than 50 countries (current record is 59). The Copa hosts up to about 3,000 spectators each day.
